Man, that Sister Joan rocks...
Check out Monarchies, PQ's and Condoleezza Rice
By Joan Chittister, OSB
that's very good.
Posted by: robert on April 14, 2004 06:36 AMUmm... what specifically is 'good' about it?
Isn't it yet another short-sighted rendition of nothing more than an America-envy hit piece?
Posted by: RickinVa on April 15, 2004 07:19 AMI wondered what took you so long, Rick.
Posted by: Mike on April 15, 2004 07:38 AMRick, you are absolutely right. You convinced me with your flawless logic. The piece sucks.
Posted by: robert on April 15, 2004 12:14 PMMike,
Been on vacation in Orlando, the capitalist's swine city symbolizing America's greed, or I would've been here sooner...
Robert,
I don't pretend to be flawlessly logical and I didn't say the piece sucks...
But I did ask you a question you conveniently dodged... care to try to answer the question?
Posted by: RickinVa on April 15, 2004 02:31 PMI thought it was interesting that she pointed out that other systems have transparency and accessibility to their leadership not available in the US. Not that the American system doesn't have its strengths, it obviously does. But so do others. That was her point. I thought it was a good one.
Posted by: robert on April 15, 2004 02:44 PMHmmm... I didn't see what you saw (imagine that)... I saw yet another liberal criticizing this administration for 9/11 while ignoring the previous administrations slip-ups, flawed policies, and lack of accountability.
I wonder if Ms. Chittister has problems with Ms. Gorelick's apparent conflict of interest? I wonder if she has any problems with Clinton's failure to accept the Sudanese offer to turn over Bin Laden? Did she ignore the 8 years that the Clinton administration failed to deal with the terrorist threat while she focuses on Condoleeza Rice's apparent (and alleged) lack of accountability?
Of course not...
Ms. Chittister is a liberal. And the mark of a 'good' liberal is the ability to ignore behaviors engaged in by those who share their ideologies while excoriating those who do not...
Some of us would call this hypocrisy...
Others will call those of us who see the obvious as being mean-spirited, judgmental and divisive...
Posted by: RickinVa on April 16, 2004 12:12 PMThoughtful response, Rick.
Of course, your definition of a good liberal is exactly mine for a good right wing dude. Perhaps we should agree that it should be our definition for anyone who blindly pledges their allegiance to any political ideology - left, right, up or down - and surrenders their right/responsibility to make thoughtful decisions and form opinions based on how those issues line up with their Christ-centred world view.
